WE HAVE SEEN A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE AND IT WAS FULL OF XENOPHOBIA

In 2009, a group of students from Myton School in England recorded a video while returning from a school trip in France. The video was uploaded to YouTube with the title “Illegal immigrants trying to enter the UK, good job we caught them.” In the video, two migrants are seen being detained by border agents, and the students from Myton School then celebrate the arrest.

Between 2014 and 2015, a group of students from a secondary school in Barcelona spent several months analysing the video from a decolonial perspective and critical of the immigration control system. The result of the analysis of the video was the publication of the book "We saw a video on YouTube and it was full of xenophobia". The book is intended to serve as educational material to address issues related to xenophobia, Eurocentrism, the immigration control system and coloniality.

15 copies of the publication were sent to Myton School in England where the students who recorded the video studied.
