Self-portrait showing the two legal frameworks imposed on my motherhood; The Jus Sanguinis or right of blood, a regime imposed in Spain by which it is determined that only children who carry Spanish blood are recognized as subjects with the right to nationality at the time of birth. In this way, the children of migrants who are born in Spanish territory inherit the nationality of their parents as well as their legal status, this is how the submission to the violent Immigration Law of minors children of migrants begins from birth. And on the other hand, the Patria Potestas, a legal framework that granted power and control to the biological father of my son, absent by his own will, who used the judicialization against my maternity to inflict gender violence and control over my maternity and upbringing.
Following the Latin American tradition of artists such as Las Yeguas del Apocalipsis, the painting is also a tribute to Frida Kahlo and her painting Las dos Fridas as well as her narrative and difficult experience with motherhood. The painting was presented for the first time in Mexico City in the exhibition Maternar. Entre el síndrome de Estocolmo y los actos de producción at the MUAC.
