THE CHILDREN ARE NOT OF THE WOLF

The puppet show tells the story of a she-wolf who kidnaps a child, taking custody from his mother through the use of racist, classist and sexist legal frameworks. The mother's resistance and struggle finally succeeds in overcoming her and she recovers her son thanks to the power of her long braid.

The puppet show, performed entirely in Italian and presented for the first time at the Gianicolo in Rome, reflects on the fascist and colonial ideological roots that underpin contemporary institutional racist violence imposed on single migrant mothers in Italy whose children are taken away by Social Services using openly racist, classist and sexist legal mechanisms in the processes of removal of custody.

The background painted in oil on canvas shows the entire script of the work, as well as various Italian monuments and buildings that are part of the racist and fascist symbols and institutions related to the content of the work.
